The Fig Look: Texture Over Trend

The idea behind Fig Atelier was always simple: to bring together a curated collection of furniture and accessories that reflect a specific aesthetic texture-rich, earthy, understated, and beautifully made.

We’re drawn to contemporary pieces by prestigious European and Italian designers, not because they’re trendy, but because they’re timeless. These are the kinds of pieces that work just as well in a sleek, modern space as they do in a character-filled period home. That contrast,  a sleek Italian sofa set against historical architecture is exactly the kind of tension we love.

So whether you live in a minimalist new build or a Georgian townhouse, if you’re drawn to considered design, natural palettes, and pieces that feel quietly luxurious, you’re probably one of us … Here’s how we build the Fig Look!

Start with the Furniture

At the heart of it all are pieces that are tactile, sculptural, and grounded. We go for clean lines and soft silhouettes, furniture that holds the room without taking it over.

The Cierre Imbottiti armchair, upholstered in Nubuk leather, is a good example. The leather has this chalky, matte finish that feels almost like suede, subtle and super touchable. It’s pared back, but with just enough shape to make a statement.

We’re also big on detail. The Eforma Max dining chair is a favourite of ours, with buttery-soft leather, gently pleated through the back, with a soft, tailored seat. It’s refined, but not fussy. The kind of piece that elevates a space without making it feel ‘done’.

Bring in Natural Texture

Walls deserve attention too. At Fig we like to use natural coverings that add depth without overwhelming the space.

Our go to is the Fig Atelier Bouleaux wall covering, rich in texture. We especially love the vibrant green! – See Inspiration on how to curate using this wall covering, in Verte Dining Design Story in our Design Inspiration pages.

The Fig Atelier Capiz wall covering is an ultra luxurious product perfect for a feature —made from recycled shell by-product (yes, actual shells), so they’ve got this really subtle shimmer that catches the light. It’s not shiny or showy, just quietly beautiful.

Other favourites include raffia, jute, and seagrass wall coverings. They bring in a bit of raw texture and give that lived-in, handmade edge that stops a space from feeling too perfect.

Don’t Forget the Floor

Rugs are essential. They anchor everything and soften the acoustics in a way that makes a room feel more lived-in.

We love the Danish-made rugs from Fabula Living, especially the Edder rug. It’s woven from New Zealand wool and has a deep, dense pile that’s unbelievably soft underfoot. The kind of rug you sink into when you kick your shoes off. The colours are soft and easy.. think clay, chalk, sand, so they tie in effortlessly with natural wall finishes and leather pieces.

The Mood

At the end of the day, the Fig Look is about how a space feels. It’s not trying too hard. It’s thoughtful, tactile, and considered. A mix of softness and structure. Natural textures. Honest materials. And a palette that lets the pieces breathe.

It’s not about filling space,  it’s about choosing well and letting things speak for themselves.
